Rourkela: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced a Rs 260 crore housing scheme for the slum dwellers of Rourkela city.

He also announced Rs 400 crore scheme for underground sewerage in the Steel City.

The chief minister made the announcement while addressing Nirmana Shramik Saptaha (Construction Workers' Week ) at Bisra on the outskirts of the city in the presence of senior BJP leader and Union Tribal Affairs minister Jual Oram.

It may be mentioned that the chief minister had launched Pucca Ghara Yojana (concrete housing scheme) for construction workers of the state in the capital city on February 20.

Under the scheme, the state government would provide an assistance of Rs 1 lakh to each registered construction worker of the state for construction of his/her house.

About 1200 registered construction workers would be included in the first phase of the scheme.

Earlier in the day, Patnaik inaugurated a new bridge over Koel river at Jhirpani and laid the foundation stones of two flyovers at STI Square and ITI Square and four primary health centres (PHCs) in the Steel city.

Among others, Labour minister Prafulla Mallick, BJD MLAs Mangala Kisan and Subrat Tarai and chairperson of Rourkela Development Authority (RDA) Sarada Prasad Nayak had accompanied the chief minister.
