Angul: In a daring broad daylight heist, four miscreants looted cash worth Rs 17 lakh from three employees of a private finance company near Matia Sahi area of the town here on Monday.

Reports said three employees of L&T Finance Company Ltd—Rajendra Sahu, Amaresh Panda and Manoranjan Sahu—were on the way in two bikes to Matia Sahi to disburse loan amounting to Rs 20 lakh after withdrawing the cash from the ICICI Bank, at about 12 AM when four miscreants came in two Bajaj Pulsar bikes and asked them to handover the cash bag to them at gunpoint. Later, they took two away two cash bags and fled the area.

Soon after the incident, the three staffs lodged a complaint with the Town Police.

“We had kept the cash in three bags of which the miscreants have looted two bags having cash of Rs 17 lakh. The miscreants had come in two Bajaj Pulsar vehicles of one bike has no number plate,” Rajendra Sahu said.

“For disbursement of loan in the nearby area of the town, we generally take the cash in bikes while for distant places, we take the cash in car,” said Manoranjan Sahu, another company staff.

Asked about the action taken by the police, IIC of Angul Town Police Station, Subas Chandra Sahu said the police have launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.

He, however, said the police has apprehended a youth near Hulurusingha Chhak on suspicion and found an abandoned Bajaj Pulsar bike from the area.

“We are interrogating the suspect and hopeful of getting details from him,” the IIC added.
