Bhubaneswar: A day after getting the Dhalsamanta brothers - Sushil and Sushant - on a fresh five-day remand,the commissionerate police on Wednesday claimed to have secured clinching evidence of their involvement in the murder of Om Prakash Swain (Om) and Deepak Mallick (Dipu).

Police said they have seized one of the two vehicles used in the murder of Om and Dipu.

“We have seized a Honda City car from Sambalpur which was used by the criminal siblings to dispose of the bodies of Om and Dipu in Jharkhand,” police commissioner YB Khurania told reporters here.

“After the incident, they sold the car, which was registered in the name of Sushil, to a man in Sambalpur. Investigation is on to gather more information on this episode,” the official stated.

Official sources said the team camping in Jharkhand to collect information on the murder case, has also got vital clues in the incident. “We have got some important evidence on the matter in Jharkhand. Our team is trying to get some more clues,” Khurania said.

The commissioner informed that the High Court has allowed the police to produce the gangsters in handcuffs, if needed. The court, however, ruled that the police action will be open to scrutiny.

“HC has ordered that the criminal brothers can be handcuffed if the investigating officer feels the need for it. But his action will be open to scrutiny by the court,” he said.

After the mysterious disappearance of Dipu and Om in 2013, Om’s wife Manini Swain had lodged a police complaint that her husband had been killed by the notorious brothers. Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered.
