Koraput: The BJP on Thursday charged Koraput BJD MP Jhina Hikaka with filing a false affidavit while filing his nomination in the last two elections.

Briefing newsmen here, BJP leader Bhrugu Buxipatra said the information furnished by Hikaka about his educational qualification at the time of filing his nomination as a candidate for the Assembly election from Laxmipur constituency in 2009 and from the Koraput Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 does not match with the information provided on the Odisha Assembly and the Parliament websites.

“In different pages of a single affidavit, Hikaka has cited his educational qualifications as BA, LLB, BA, LLM, MA, LLB and MJMC. We are making public the documents, including the affidavits and nominations filed by Hikaka, through the media. We seek a clarification from the sitting MP on which information furnished by him is correct. We want to know from him whether these are the false affidavits or the information mentioned in the affidavit has been filed to make them true,” Buxipatra said.

“We feel that as an MLA and an MP, Hikaka may have lost his moral right. We demand that Parliament should take cognisance to it and the sitting MP, who has provided false information, should tender his resignation,” he demanded.

The BJP leader also urged the BJD supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who always claims that his party has no vices, to take up the matter in all seriousness and expel Hikaka from his party for tarnishing the party image.

Asked whether the BJP would seek legal recourse in case the sitting MP and the BJD supremo remain silent on the matter, Buxipatra said if anyone submits an affidavit in the court of law and if the information furnished in the affidavit is found as false, then it becomes a case of criminal offence.

“The BJP is waiting for the clarification of Hikaka and his party supremo. After it gets their reply, it will take appropriate steps, be it inside or outside the court, or through agitation,” he informed.

Reacting to the allegation of Buxipatra, the Koraput MP claimed whatever information about his educational qualification he has mentioned in the affidavit, is true.

“I have mentioned whatever educational qualification I have got. Let those, who are complaining against my qualification, cross-check it from the concerned educational institutions,” he added.
