Cuttack: The junior doctors' association of SCB Medical College and Hospital today demanded withdrawal of cases against nine of their counterparts at Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

"If our demands are not fulfilled by this evening, we will resort to cease work from tomorrow," SCB junior doctors' association president said.

Nine junior doctors, including president of MKCG Medical College and Hospital Junior Doctors’ Association Paresh Gouda, were arrested for allegedly thrashing a sub inspector of police and a local journalist.

Six were nabbed on February 2 while Paresh and two others were booked by Baidyanathpur police the following day. All the nine arrested doctors were forwarded to court.

Notably on January 29, an altercation ensued between junior doctors and family members of a patient undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital over alleged negligence by the doctors on duty.

When a city-based journalist went there to enquire about the incident, he was allegedly beaten up, while a police officer who came to help him also got manhandled by the junior doctors.

Meanwhile, the MKCG authorities have made alternative arrangements to run health service. Senior doctors were asked to attend emergency services as the junior doctors have stopped work protesting the arrest.
