Berhampur: Nine junior doctors of MKCG Medical College and Hospital, including president of the Junior Doctors’ Association Paresh Gouda, who were arrested for assaulting a media person and a police officer, were granted conditional bail on Monday.

The nine medicos were released on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 each.

Earlier in the day, the junior doctors’ association of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack had demanded withdrawal of cases against the nine MKCG junior doctors.

“If our demands are not fulfilled by this evening, we will resort to cease work from tomorrow,” the SCB junior doctors’ association president had said.

Notably, the nine junior doctors were arrested for allegedly thrashing a police sub inspector and local journalist. Six of them were nabbed on February 2 while Paresh and two others were booked by Baidyanathpur police the following day.

On January 29, an altercation had ensued between junior doctors and family members of a patient undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital over alleged negligence by the doctors on duty.

When a city-based journalist had gone there to enquire about the incident, he was allegedly beaten up, while a police officer who came to help him was also manhandled by the junior doctors.

Meanwhile, MKCG junior doctors had stopped work protesting the arrest of nine junior doctors.
