Jeypore: Palpable tension prevailed at the Jeypore depot of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) after the contractual employees of the state-owned transport company held demonstration protesting closure of the unit.

As per reports, some of the permanent employees of the Jeypore depot of OSRTC were transferred to other places a few days back following which a letter ordering shutdown of the unit arrived, triggering resentment among locals and protests by the contractual employees.

“We came to know about the closure of Jeypore depot of OSRTC following the transfer of all our regular staff to other places. Moreover, the salaries of the contractual staff are yet to be paid,” said Bala Ray, President of OSRTC Employee’s Association, Jeypore.

“We urge the CMD of OSRTC and the Chief Minister to reconsider their decision so that the employees could be benefitted,” Bala added.

Santosh Kumar Tripathy, who was engaged as a conductor by OSRTC, said, “Our staff had served the people even during this pandemic and this is what we got in return.”

Following the protest, local ruling-BJD leader, Indra Nanda reached the spot to pacify the agitators.

“The depot has been closed and some employees have been transferred. I will try to speak to the authorities and to find a solution that benefits all,” said Nanda.
