Cuttack: With rise in Coronavirus cases yet to abate in Odisha, the Orissa High Court on Friday extended the order suspending its normal functioning till November 20.

The State apex court has however cleared that its proceedings by virtual mode or video conferencing will remain in force till the said period. New cases can be filed by email, e-filing or drop box, said a notification issued by High Court Registry.

Similarly, the functioning of the Subordinate courts and Tribunals shall continue as per the arrangement made earlier.

The HC has further mentioned that its offices as well as the Subordinate Courts/Tribunals shall remain closed on all working saturdays in the month of October.

According to a directive issued by Orissa High Court (HC) earlier, the functioning of courts will remain suspended in local areas where the administration has imposed containment restrictions in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, places where internet connection is poor or some technical snags are there, the proceedings can be done in the court premises by following all COVID-19 norms, the directive said, adding that, a witness or accused must not be forced to appear before the court unless required, the directive issued by the HC on August 21 said.
