Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Monday permitted Balu Bazar Puja Committee, which is the oldest puja committees in the millennium city of Cuttack, to hold Durga Puja.

The Court has allowed the Puja Committee to conduct all the rituals as per strict compliance to the COVID-19 guidelines issued by Centre and Odisha government.

“As per tradition, the process of idol making will continue along and all the rituals will be followed strictly. However, there will be no gathering near mandap and all the COVID-19 guidelines will be followed,” said Suryakant Sanganeria, president of Balu Bazar Puja Committee.

The High Court has also directed the Puja Committee not to hold any immersion procession.

Earlier, the Balu Bazar Puja Committee had moved Orissa High Court seeking permission for the conduct of Puja in the mandap where Goddess Durga is being worshipped since 1509.
