Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to launch probe into the 2017 gang rape and suicide of a minor girl in Kunduli area of Koraput district.

Informing about the development, victim’s advocate Shreeji Bhavsar on Monday stated that the SIT will comprise three senior police officers of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank.

“A writ petition was filed by mother of the victim requesting the for court monitored CBI investigation. Attorney General informed the court that after two years of registration of FIR, now the State has filed a closure report before the trial court,” said Bhavsar.

Bhavsar further stated, “We were expecting such closure report as State govt had allowed to botch up the investigation earlier by the police and then by Crime branch. After hearing arguments from both sides, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court passed an order to constitute an SIT and it will be a court monitored investigation.”

The court has directed that the SIT will thoroughly conduct the probe including all documents presented by us, Bhavsar said adding that the next hearing will be held on December 16, 2019.
