Bhubaneswar: The national vice-president of BJP, Baijayant Jay Panda, on Saturday slammed the Opposition parties while accusing them of spreading misinformation on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Speaking to media persons, the BJP leader claimed that Opposition's resistance to the Act shows that it is frustrated. "Nobody knew that opposition parties will show so much hypocrisy on CAA. Congress had proposed the idea of CAA/NRC for the first time but it is opposing them now," said Panda.

On the States which are opposing the Act, the former parliamentarian said, "Under federal structure of govt, they come under purview of Centre & any state which denies implementing it will be considered as against the idea of federalism."

He added that CAA will not have any impact on Indian citizens but it will help those who have been discriminated and tortured in the neighbouring countries.

"There is no plan to implement NRC now but in future if at all it is implemented, it will be done after addressing the concerns related to it," said Panda.

Meanwhile, the BJP organised a mega rally in Sambalpur today in support of the CAA which was attended by Union Minister Giriraj Singh, party State president Basant Panda, local MP Nitesh Gangdeb and local MLA Jaynarayan Mishra.

Speaking on the sidelines of rally, the Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, "CAA will not take away anyone's citizenship but I would like to ask Congress and the 'tukde tukde gang' that whether Rohingyas, Pakistani infiltrators should be given citizenship? Should Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan not be given citizenship? If they have courage then they should answer."
