Bhubaneswar: The BJP and the Congress on Saturday came down heavily on Odisha government alleging that the new farmers' empowerment plan of the ruling-BJD is another attempt to hide the failure of KALIA scheme.

KALIA scheme is a part of Odisha government's farmers' empowerment plan of August 2018. After being failed to properly implement the KALIA scheme and assist farmers, the government is now trying to conceal its failure through a new scheme, said State BJP general secretary, Prithviraj Harichandan.

"The new scheme of the State government is just a political jumla," alleged Harichandan.

While the farmers in the State have lost their crops and are in distress, all the schemes of the Odisha government have failed to serve the purpose, said Congress MLA Narasingha Mishra.

"It's a habit of the Odisha government to come up with a new scheme with a new name when one of its schemes fails. Fooling people by announcing new schemes is the tendency of this government," alleged Mishra.

Responding to the allegations, BJD MLA Arabinda Dhali said, "Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik realised that the assistance under the KALIA scheme is not enough for farmers and hence, he has announced this new scheme."

Under the new scheme of the State government, the farmers in distress will reportedly get a financial assistance of Rs 20,000, which will be provided by sarpanchs from the Farmers' Welfare Fund.
