Bhubaneswar: The ruling-BJD MLA Umashankar Samantaray on Sunday admitted that the COVID-19 mismanagement allegations of the opposition parties in Odisha are not totally wrong.

"I admit, the opposition parties are not totally wrong," said Samantaray.

“Considering the surge in the Covid-19 patients in the State, we require more ICU beds. The hospitals in the State don’t have sufficient ICU beds facilities compared to the number of patients. We need to increase the number of ICU beds in both government and private hospitals. The number of Covid hospitals is also not enough and need to be increased. This issue will be raised in the assembly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati hailed Samantaray for accepting the truth. “Umashankar is honest and truthful. So, he confessed the truth which will land him in trouble. He may lose the ticket in the next election. I condemn Odisha government for its failure in managing the COVID-19 situation in the State,” Bahinipati said.

Opposition BJP alleged Covid-19 mismanagement with its party MLA Jaynarayan Mishra accusing the State government of being involved in massive corruption.

“The State Government has failed completely to curb the pandemic. The government is hiding the actual number of deaths related to the COVID-19 infection. Patients are treated very poorly in the Covid centres across the State. The State government has indulged in massive corruption and it’s the biggest scam of the century,” alleged Mishra.
