Dhenkanal: Call it their love for nature that an entire village has now come forward to save a forest in Dhenkanal. Moreover, the villagers mostly women are now guarding the trees inside Jhinkargadi forest where the Odisha government wants to set up a beer factory.

According to sources, the proposed beer factory is expected to come up on 600 acre of forest land. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for the project through video conferencing on November 3.

"Our forefathers had been protecting the trees. We would rather die than allowing the government to cut down the trees here," said an enraged villager.

Though the construction work was scheduled to begin on November 8, it had to be stopped because of the protest by villagers.
