One killed, 7 missing after boat capsizes in Mahanadi

Kendrapara: One person was killed while seven others went missing after a boat capsized in Mahanadi river mouth near Nipania in Kendrapara today evening.

According to sources, the boat was reportedly ferrying picnickers who were returning from Hukitola Lighthouse to Kujang area of Paradip.

As per latest reports, Fire tenders have reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. A team of ODRAF has also been called by the district collector.

"As per initial reports, 1 person has been killed and 7 others have gone missing. Nearly, 45 people were on the boat when the mishap took place," district collector Dasarath Satapathy said.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to express his grief on the incident. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his condolences to family members of the deceased.
