Bolangir: One person was killed while two others sustained critical injuries in two mishaps involving three ambulances at separate places of the State on Saturday morning.

In the first mishap, one person died and another was injured after a speeding truck rammed into two ambulances near Ratanpur Chhak under Deogaon police limits on Bolangir- Titlagarh Road today.

The deceased has been identified as ambulance driver, Dhanpati Bagarti who hails from Narla area in Kalahandi district.

Both ambulances were returning from Burla in Sambalpur district to Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district, reports said. Dhanpati and another driver of the 108 ambulance were talking to each other after parking their vehicles on the roadside when the truck hit their ambulances, added reports.

While the driver of the truck fled the spot after the mishap, Deogaon police rushed to the spot after getting information and sent Dhanpati’s body to Bhim Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

In another mishap, one person sustained critical injuries after an ambulance skidded of the road and fell into a 10-feet deep ditch near Baumshapal village under Kaptipada police limits in Mayurbhanj district today.

The pharmacists received injuries in the mishap while the driver and helper of the emergency vehicle escaped unhurt.

Sources said, the mishap took place while the 108 ambulance was on its way to bring a patient from nearby Marshigaon village. However, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
