Nayagarh/Cuttack: A man was killed and 17 others including his wife and son were injured in two separate road mishaps that took place this afternoon in Nayagarh and Cuttack districts.

A resident of Tentulipali village was killed while his wife and son sustained critical injuries after their scooter hit a roadside tree at Kachrapali under Fatehgarh Police limits in Nayagarh.

The road mishap occurred after the man reportedly lost control over the two-wheeler and subsequently hit a roadside tree while returning to Tentulipali from Bhubaneswar.

While he died on the spot, his injured wife and son were rescued by some locals and later admitted to Bhapur Community Health Centre for treatment.

In another incident, at least 15 people were injured after a private passenger bus carrying them rammed into a truck on NH-16 near Tangi Bank chhak in Choudwar of Cuttack district. The bus named Jena was on its way to Duburi from Cuttack, said sources.

All the injured persons were rushed to Tangi Community Health Centre for medication, however, four of them were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Tangi Police has initiated an investigation into the matter. Cops have seized the bus and also initiated attempts to trace the truck which fled the spot soon after the road accident.
