Berhampur/Jharsuguda: One person was killed and 17 others injured in two separate road mishaps in Ganjam and Jharsuguda districts within last 24 hours.

Seventeen passengers travelling in an OSRTC bus en route to Bhubaneswar from Berhampur were severely injured after the vehicle rammed into a truck parked near a toll plaza at Khallikote on NH-16 in Ganjam district today. The condition of four among them is stated to be critical.

The injured have been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. All the injured belong to Patapur and Digapahandi blocks of the district, said reports.

In a separate incident, one person was killed and two others left critically injured after being mowed down by a Hyva truck at Chhualiberna under Belpahar Municipality in Jharsuguda district on Sunday night.

As per sources, the Hyva engaged to carry sand from a dried up pond for construction of the Manoharpur Odisha Power Generation Corporation railway lines ran over three persons, fast asleep inside the dry pool.

While one Krushna Sahu died on the spot, the two injured, Rupadhar Rohidas and Dolamani Sahu have been admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.

Driver of the Hyva absconded after the incident.  Locals staged a road blockade on the spot demanding compensation for kin of the deceased.
