One dead, two injured as police van hits multiple vehicles

Khurda: A Police Control Room (PCR) van went berserk and hit a bike and later another car killing the motorcyclist on the spot and injuring two car passengers on NH-12 in Nachuni area of Khurda district yesterday.

According to reports, the said police vehicle initially hit the motorcycle of one Harash Sahu of Khalanada village at Haripur Chowk on NH-12. Harash, who was on his way to Nachuni died on the spot. While the driver of the vehicle was trying to escape from the scene, he rammed into another car injuring two passengers. The injured were admitted to Khurda hospital for treatment.

Following the mishaps, locals today staged a demonstration on NH-12 by burning tyres and blocking the road. Later, the Banpur and Chilika Tehsildars along with local police officials reached the spot to pacify the agitators. However, the agitators continued their protests demanding discussions with the collector and SP.
