Bhubaneswar: One Zero Eight students of Class X, whose OMR sheets of Mathematics paper went missing from their exam centre in Malkangiri, were awaiting the decision of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE). Each one of them breathed a sigh of relief today after the Board published their matric results.
BSE president Jahan Ara Begum stated that results of all these 108 students along with other students have been published using a special formula. "As per the recommendation of the examination committee, a special formula was implemented to process the results of students who had written their exams at Padia High school in Malkangiri," she said.
An investigation was reportedly carried out to ascertain the circumstances in which the OMR sheets went missing. The Board finalised that it will use the special formula following a meeting of the examination committee, sources said.
Reportedly, the OMR sheets of the Mathematics paper of nearly 108 students were found missing from government-run SSD Padia High School in Malkangiri district, their exam centre.
Based on initial reports, the Malkangiri district collector had suspended Centre Superintendent Bidyut Kumar Patra and Assistant Superintendent Satrughna Swain in connection with the case. Acting on the directive of the Board, the Block Education Officer had also lodged an FIR at Padia police station against Gathanapalli High School Headmaster Jalandhar Behera, Assistant Superintendent Satrughna Swain and Observer Sandeep Sahu. While all three were arrested, one Suprit Sethi, who was working as the peon of Padia School, was suspended.
Meanwhile, School and Mass Education secretary Pradipta Mohapatra informed that those students whose results have been withheld due to malpractice or other reasons will have to appear for the supplementary examination.
"Over 1100 students were booked for malpractice. The Board had also cancelled the English examination of February 25 in three centres over allegations of malpractice. Plus, in places where reports of paper leak surfaced, students will have to appear for supplementary examination," said Mohapatra.
On February 25, students appearing for English paper exam at Ghunsar Govt High School in Bolangir, Palaspitha PR High School in Dhenkanal and Gopinathpur Krupasindhu Nodal High School in Cuttack district resorted to mass copying when guardians and teachers gathered around these centers and forcefully entered into the examination halls and helped the students with books and chits to write the answers.
