Off To Nab An Accused, Jagatpur Police Attacked By Villagers

Cuttack: Five police personnel including the Inspector In-charge of Jagatpur PS, Pradeep Kumar Nayak were allegedly thrashed by villagers while they had gone to Kapursingh under Gurudijhatia police limits to arrest an accused in connection with a case. The locals not only saved the accused from getting arrested but also stopped the police from carrying out their duty.

As per sources, the cops had gone to the village in civil uniform, in a numberless vehicle to nab a criminal. Situation soon turned ugly for them after locals gheraoed and allegedly thrashed them, even though they identified themselves as cops. The vehicle was also vandalised by irate locals who alleged that false charges were leveled against the accused.

Though the police team had nabbed the accused, he managed to flee the spot amid the high drama between the cops and the locals.

Getting information, a team from nearby Gurudijhatia and Athagarh police stations rushed to the stop and rescued the five police personnel held captive by the villagers.
