Cuttack: From underground life detectors to victim locators, the ace disaster rescue organisation of the State, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has reinforced itself with induction of various sophisticated gadgets.

As per reports, ODRAF got six state-of-the-art equipments to aid them in rescue missions spanning from floods to earthquakes.

Victim locator makes it easier to locate trapped persons in tunnels or similar places. Life detector works with numerous advanced sensors that help detect living beings trapped underground during natural disasters.

Manoranjan Acharya, a Sepoy of ODRAF said, “Last year, a toddler was swept away in a drain in Cuttack. It would have been a lot easier for us to locate him if we had this machine back then.”

Similarly the new concrete cutter has the capacity to cut through heavy rods and concretes. The team has also got Hydraulic and Plasma cutters.

A sophisticated fire jacket which the fire fighter used to wear during their rescue mission will be made available to the ODRAF as well.

Yashwant Jethwa, ADGP (Law and Order) said, “We hope to enhance ODRAF’s capabilities in disaster response by incorporating these sophisticated gadgets.”

The instruments that have arrived at the ODRAF centre in Cuttack will be sent to 20 other centres in the State.
