Berhampur: In a bid to bring an overall change in the existing collection and disposal of solid waste generated from the city, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has introduced barcode system. The Corporation recently issued a notice in this regard.

Under the system, the holding tax number of each household will be converted into barcode. Later, the barcodes will be scanned after collection of garbage door-to-door. The system is likely to play a crucial role in 100 percent solid waste collection.

Senior BeMC officials informed that as a lot of households, apartments, commercial establishments do not have holding tax number, they have been asked to apply so that barcode is generated for effective implementation of the programme.

The corporation will issue a special barcode for apartments, hotels and other commercial establishments so that garbage can be collected twice a day after levy of charges.

In another special initiative under the Swachh Survekshan 2020-Challenge , the Berhampur Municipal Corporation will pay a compensation of Rs 200 if the civic body fails to redress their grievances within 24 hours.

The challenge will be open from October 30 and residents can lodge their complaints regarding drains, toilets, garbage lifting and cleaning of roads on the Swachhta App.
