New Delhi: The Centre has decided to set up five Sainik Schools across the country including one in Sambalpur, informed Sambalpur BJP MP Nitesh Gangdeb after a meeting with Defence minister Rajnath Singh today in New Delhi.

“I met the Defence minister and thanked him for his decision to establish a Sainik School in Sambalpur. The Centre has decided to set up five Sainik Schools across the country keeping the National Defence Academy (NDA) in mind,” said Gangdeb.

The proposed school will help students from Sambalpur get exposure and join the academy to serve the country better, he added.

In 1962, the State’s first Sainik School was established in Bhubaneswar. It temporarily functioned from Blind School and was later shifted to the present campus in 1963. As per reports, the school has churned significant number of officers for Indian defence forces.
