Bhubaneswar: The daily count of Covid-19 positives and fatalities in Odisha continued to witness a declining trend for the second consecutive day on Monday. The government in its latest data revealed that 418 persons tested positive for coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours while five Covid patients succumbed to the virus during the period.

With this, the death toll in the State has climbed to 1,739. The State's infection tally rose to 3,18,725 today, informed the health department.

On Sunday, Odisha recorded four deaths- two from Khordha district and one each from Balasore and Dhenkanal districts. The last time the State had witnessed single-day fatalities below 4 was on July 18 when three positive patients succumbed.

As per the data released by the State Health and Family Welfare Department today, three persons died of the virus in Khordha district, while two deaths were registered in Nuapada in the last 24 hours.

Of the fresh cases reported from 28 districts, 241 are from quarantine centres while 177 are related to local transmission cases. No district has reported a surge beyond 50 cases. Sundargarh reported a maximum of 41 fresh Covid-19 cases followed by Angul (34), Mayurbhanj (32), Cuttack (25) and Khordha (23). Boudh and Sonepur recorded zero fresh cases during the period.

The health department has also shared the details of the Covid-19 patients who succumbed while under treatment at hospitals during the period.

  1. A 35-year-old male of Khordha district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  2. A 60-year-old male of Khordha district.
  3. A 55-year-old male of Khordha district.
  4. A 60-year-old male of Nuapada district.
  5. A 50-year-old female of Nuapada district.

A total of 41,371 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 59,04,570 in Odisha. After today’s surge, the State’s active caseload stood at 5,677 while 3,11,256 patients have so far recovered from the infection.
