Bhubaneswar: Odisha government’s technical adviser on COVID-19, Jayant Panda on Sunday said that the State may end up with a total of around 25,000 to 30,000 positive cases by the end of July.
"The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha may reach around 25,000-30,000 along with an addition of around 50 more fatalities by the end of this month," said Panda.
However, he claimed that the promising results of Plasma Therapy might be able to reduce the death toll and turn into a game-changer in the fight against the virus.
"The efforts to stop COVID-19 infections may not work as the cases will continue to rise, but there is nothing to panic. We will continue our efforts to save lives with all the available measures," said the doctor.
On reports of community transmission in Bhubaneswar, Panda said Sero-survey has proved that there is no such transmission in the Smart city as out of the 900 collected samples, anti-body was found only in 2 per cent people.
He further said that the number of COVID-19 infections will continue to rise in Bhubaneswar as many people are travelling to the Capital city on regular basis.
"Recovery rate is encouraging in Odisha. If 10,000 more people get infected in the remaining days of this month, as many people will also recover. So, people should not panic as timely detection, testing, admissions and treatment will help fight the pandemic successfully," he added.
Meanwhile, 515 COVID-19 patients recovered in Odisha on Sunday as the recovery tally touched 12452. The highest 199 people recovered from the disease in Ganjam district, 80 from Khurda, 40 from Jajpur, 37 from Sundergarh and 28 from Cuttack.
Similarly, 20 patients recuperated from Keonjhar, 18 from Jagatsinghpur, 15 from Balasore, 13 each from Jharsuguda and Bargarh, 9 each from Mayurbhanj, and Rayagada, 8 from Bolangir, 7 from Bhadrak, 6 each from Gajapati and Puri, 5 from Koraput and 1 case each from Angul and Kendrapara districts.
