Baripada: The catching trend and craze for doing something new in the best way possible is giving rise to a fevered subculture of record setters nowadays. While interest of people in collecting post cards, newspapers and currency notes of different countries is not new, a girl from Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district is catching everyone's attention with her interest for chocolate wrappers.

Prangya Paramita Mantry from Mendhakhai under Udala NAC has a collection over 5000 paper wrappers of chocolates from India and other parts of the world. Her unique hobby in collecting chocolate wrappers has earned her the name of chocolate girl.

A Plus III (Science) third year student, Prangya said that she was fond of having chocolate since her childhood and gradually developed the interest of collecting the wrappers. She collected the first wrapper of an imported brand of chocolate when she was in Class IX.

She has amassed chocolate wrappers from England, Brazil, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Poland, Germany and other countries. She wishes to make it to the Guinness Book of Records.

Prangya contacts wrapper collectors from around the world through Facebook to enhance her collection.

“While collecting chocolate wrappers, I learnt that I can enhance my collection by exchanging similar wrappers with different ones from others. I contact the wrapper collectors through Facebook and exchange my collections,” she said.

On her passion for chocolate wrappers, Prangya says that she got inspired by the postal ticket collection of her father, Pradeep Mantry.

“She was fond of eating chocolate during her childhood and started collecting the wrappers. She aims to make it to the Guinness Book of Records. We always encourage her so that she can fulfil her dream,” said Prangya’s father.
