Odisha Youth Who Attempted Suicide In Delhi Had Hurled Shoes at Naveen

Bhubaneswar: Kartik Meher, who attempted suicide in New Delhi yesterday, is the person who had triggered a row after hurling shoes at Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik at a public meeting in Kumbhari village of Bargarh district during Bijepur bypoll in 2018.

It was then said that Meher’s mental condition was not stable and he had also threatened to end life by jumping off Padmapur sub-collector’s office roof if cow slaughter is not stopped.

Meher was back in news after he attempted self-immolation yesterday near India Gate in Delhi. Meher who has sustained over 90 percent burn injuries, is now undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. His condition is stated to be critical.

Though it is still unclear why Meher resorted to such an extreme step, he was rescued by some security personnel who then admitted him to the hospital.

Meher’s brother Bikram informed that the former had left home without informing anybody on Sunday and did not return.
