Koraput: At a time when water conservation has become a global issue, a science graduate from Odisha's Koraput district has come up with a smart device which can efficiently curb the water wastage at domestic level besides saving electricity and reducing bills.

Sri Kumar Satpathy of Kotpad in Koraput district has developed the multi tasking device and has named it 'Smart Water and Electricity Saver'.

Asked about his innovation, Kumar said that he used the help of simple technology to design the gadget.

“One needs to install the device in the water tank with the electric motor which helps supply water to the tank. The device automatically switches off the electric motor, once the water tank gets filled up and also starts the power supply to the electric motor to draw water when the tank is empty. This helps in conservation of water,” said Kumar.

Sources said, some local residents have already installed the smart device in their houses and are getting benefit from it.
"The device works without any power connection. After installing this device, it will automatically stop water overflow from tanks and save electricity," said Kumar.

On the accessibility to the gadget, Kumar said, "Devices for similar usage are also available in markets, but their prices are high. While I have designed the smart device with a cost of Rs 1,500 to 2,000, market price of other similar devices can come around Rs 6,000.”

Speaking on its benefits, Sanatan Maharana, a local resident said, "I installed the device in my house for last four days and since then I have not switched off or on the motor. The 'Smart Water and Electric Saver' device does its job automatically.

It may be noted that, earlier Kumar had innovated a device to tackle motorbike theft. The device sends message to mobile phone, whenever it gets stolen or meets an accident.
