Bhubaneswar: The members of the State Youth Congress on Tuesday staged protest in front of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) and demanded immediate withdrawal of the revised power tariff.

While alleging that the Odisha government has increased the tariff to favour a company, the protestors urged the power consumers in the State to support the cause by switching off all electrical appliances for 15 minutes (from 6 PM to 6:15 PM) on October 22.

"The way OERC and the Odisha government are looting people by increasing the retail power tariff is condemnable. If the government does not listen to our demand, we will intensify our protest in the coming days," said Youth Congress president, Smruti Lenka.

"Members of the youth wing of the State Congress, who today staged protest in front of the OERC office, will take up the protest to village level if the Odisha government doesn't withdraw the hiked power tariff immediately," said senior Congress leader, Panchanan kanungo.

Kanungo also took a dig at the Odisha government's 'Mo Bidyut' portal and app, which was recently launched under the State government's 5T to facilitate electricity consumers in the State.

"I want the Chief Minister's clarification on how consumers can avail electricity connections through the app," he added.
