Bhubaneswar: Unprecedented scenes were witnessed at Odisha Congress Bhawan during the extended executive body meeting of the Pradesh Youth Congress which was attended by All India Youth Congress General Secretary and Odisha in-charge, Pratibha Raghuvanshi today. While Raghuvanshi was discussing strategies to rejuvenate the State Youth Congress, aspirants were seen creating ruckus by raising slogans and taking out a rally in a 'show of strength.'

Today’s fracas further points towards factionalism following speculations over change of guard in the youth unit of the Congress. The change in leadership speculations were reportedly fuelled by Odisha Congress' decision to constitute a committee in this regard.

Commenting on the incident, Raghuvanshi categorically stated that, "PCC doesn't have the rights to select Youth Congress president. It is the Indian Youth Congress which has the authority to appoint.”

Raghuvanshi further stated that senior leaders are welcome to give suggestions, but they do not have any say in appointment of Youth Congress president or any office bearers of the youth wing of the party.

Current Pradesh Youth Congress president,Loknath Maharathy said that at present he is the president and will continue to work for the unit and party. “I had come to apprise the General Secretary and Odisha-in charge that we are ready to take the unit to greater heights. The meeting was not affected as all the workers came to meet our leader.”

Clarifying the confusion, Odisha Congress president,Niranjan Patnaik said, “Only committees have been constituted. They will give suggestions how the respective units of the party can be strengthened.”

Based on their report, suggestions will be given to the presidents of Mahila, Students and Youth units for necessary action, Patnaik added.
