Bhubaneswar: With a steady dip in night temperature, the cold wave condition is likely to prevail in most parts of the State from today. The chill condition will be felt more during night especially early hours.

The regional weather wing has issued alert for the State. Yellow warning has also been issued for some districts including Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh and Deogarh for today.

Similarly, Sundergarh, Jharuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Balasore and Bhadrak districts have been put on alert for tomorrow.

In anticipation of severe cold wave, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the respective district Collectors to remain alert to meet any possible eventuality. District collectors have been directed to ensure opening of school and community buildings for use as shelter by the homeless and the needy during the night.

People have been advised to remain indoors during night and early hours and avoid exposure to chill as the condition may cause mild health concern for infants and elderly people.

The mercury is likely to witness a slight rise after February 10. Districts like, Sundergahr, Jharsguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Bolangir are likely to experience relatively less cold condition after February 10, Met department predicted.

The Met experts said that dry weather is likely to prevail, while interior parts are likely to experience shallow to moderate fog.

The cold condition can be attributed to north-westerly/ northerly dry and cold wind at lower level penetrating the state.
