Puri: A woman in the town took to street threatening to self-immolate herself and her daughter in front of Chief Minister's residence in Bhubaneswar alleging police excesses against her husband, injustice and threats against her family.

According to reports, the woman identified as Bishnu Priya Das has alleged that the Sea Beach and Town police have been harassing her husband on false allegations of extortion and theft cases.

“Since last one year, the police have been torturing my husband. It is becoming very difficult to make ends meet after my husband lost his job. I have been misbehaved and my husband has been sent to jail thrice for no reasons,” Bishnu Priya alleged.

“The police are taking grudge after I moved the SP, sought RTI report and complained Human Rights Commission. We are being mentally tortured and can’t bear the medical expenses. My husband sustained serious injuries on his left leg after police thrashed him,” she rued.

The woman further added that if her grievances are not redressed soon enough, she along with her daughter will end their life and the IICs of the police station will be held responsible for the death.

When asked for an explanation over the incident, Puri Superintendent of Police clarified that he is not aware about the matter.
