Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a woman of Guptaganga village under Bansapal block of Keonjhar district allegedly sold her newborn boy for Rs 1,000. The matter came to fore after a thorough inquiry was launched by the District Administration and the baby was rescued today.

As per the reports, the woman belonging to the Juang tribe has been staying at her parents' house for past six years. On August 20, she delivered a baby boy.

As the mother-son duo was suffering from malnutrition, the district Childline officials admitted her to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital. However, a day after being admitted, the mother-son duo went missing from the hospital.

Later an inquiry by the district administration officials revealed that the woman had sold her baby to a man from Puruna Bazaar for Rs 1,000 with the help of a nurse of the hospital.

"As per the woman, she was asked to leave the hospital on the pretext of being called by Childline officials. Later two men carried her to an auto rickshaw while another woman carried the baby," Childline staff, Sukanti Patra said.
