Odisha Woman, Paramour Thrashed In Public For Eloping

Rourkela: A married woman in Odisha who allegedly eloped with her paramour was beaten and tortured along with her lover, in public glare by her husband and in-laws.

Though the incident occurred two months back in Sundergarh district, the matter surfaced after the woman and her paramour approached Rourkela SP today with allegations of harassment by the woman's husband and family members.

As per reports, the woman got married to one Jambu Oram of Mandiakudar village under Brahmani Tarang Police limits in May. However, she allegedly developed a relationship with another man and eloped with him couple of months back.

However, as per the woman, the duo was caught and later thrashed in public and a video of the incident was made viral on social media.

Moreover, in a 'kangaroo' court, the couple was penalized Rs 1.50 lakh. Although the duo gave Rs 50,000, the woman alleged that her in-laws allegedly kept on asking for more money and threatened to kill them.

"I have paid Rs 50,000 and cannot give the rest amount as we are financially poor. I want protection from police," demanded the woman.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation in connection with the incident.
