Berhampur: A 47-year-old woman sustained critical injuries after falling off a moving motorcycle when two bike-borne miscreants snatched a bag containing cash from her near Anangpur under Digapahandi Police limits of Ganjam district on Thursday.

One Santosh Gauda of S. Tikarapada village was on his way to Berhampur on a motorcycle along with his wife Sumitra after withdrawing Rs 20,000 from Andhra Bank's Digapahandi branch. However, it is alleged that two miscreants followed them in a bike and snatched the bag containing around Rs 35,000 cash from Sumitra who was riding pillion.

Sumitra fell off the motorcycle in the process and sustained critical injury in the incident. She was rescued by some locals and the Digapahandi Block Development Officer (BDO), who was passing by. She was rushed to Digapahandi hospital for treatment, but later, doctors referred her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after her condition deteriorated.

"We had withdrawn Rs 20,000 from Andhra Bank and she (Sumitra) was carrying Rs 15,000 cash. Two miscreants in a bike came and snatched the bag from her following which she fell down from the motorcycle," said Santosh.

"The miscreants fled the spot before anyone could identify them. The Digapahandi BDO who was passing through the route shifted my wife to the hospital in his vehicle," he added.
