Odisha Woman Carried On Cot, Gives Birth Midway

Nabarangpur: In yet another instance of deteriorating healthcare mechanism in remote areas of Odisha, a pregnant woman reportedly delivered a baby girl inside a forest while she was being taken to hospital on a cot.

The incident was reported from Kurshi panchayat of Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district on Friday.

According to sources, Reena Santa of Bhaludangari village under Kurshi panchayat developed labour pain following which her family members dialled the emergency ambulance service 108. However, the ambulance could not reach the village due to lack of motorable road.

Left with no option, the family members with the help of fellow villagers carried the woman on a cot but, on the way, the woman gave birth to a baby girl.

After the delivery, the family members took the woman back to their home. The health condition of both the mother and the newborn was stated to be stable.
