Koraput: Almost three decades after getting hitched, a man has found himself in trouble as a case was registered against him at Jeypore Town Police Station on Thursday by his second wife who has accused him of 'marrying' multiple women settled in different places.

The complainant, Sanjukta Patra who tied the nuptial knot to one Prabhat Kumar Chetti of Koraput 28 years back, happens to be his second wife.

She has alleged that Prabhat has cheated around 20 women by marrying them deceitfully for personal needs. Sanjukta further alleged that he used to torture her and their son and daughter-in-law and has now thrown them out of their own house. Even though the house belongs to her, Prabhat has been forcibly living there with his first wife and children, she alleged.

"We were living in a small space in the house. They (Prabhat and his first wife) did not even allow my daughter-in-law to use the kitchen and used to torture her and my son. That is my house and I want them to leave my house so that we can live peacefully," stated the complainant, Sanjukta.

"I was unaware of his other wives when I was married off to him. It was only after the birth of my son, I learnt of his relationships with other women. He (Prabhat) has around 20 wives who are settled in different places," alleged Sanjukta.

Jenifa, a resident of Assam who got married to Sanjukta's son and came to Jeypore some 20 days back said, "The house actually belongs to my mother-in-law but he (Prabhat) has been staying there with his first wife and children. They threw us out of the house yesterday,"

Prabhat however has termed all the allegations as baseless and fabricated. "I have only two wives, Sanjukta being the second. She is trying to malign my image. We have no relation for the last 14 years as she had run away with another man," stated Prabhat.

Meanwhile, Jeypore Police has registered a case and initiated an investigation in this matter.

"Sanjukta had earlier filed a case in the court following which the house was given to her. But as Prabhat and his first wife have been living in the house for a long time, they are not willing to leave the place. We tried to resolve the dispute with negotiation but both parties denied any settlement. A case has been registered in this regard and a probe is on," informed IIC of Jeypore Police Station, Baleswar Gidhi.
