Nabarangpur/Sundergarh: At least four persons including three minor girls lost their lives in two separate fire mishaps in Odisha on Sunday.

In Sundergarh, a woman and her daughter were charred to death after a fire broke out in their house at Bhasma village. Neighbours alerted the fire brigade after noticing smoke billowing out of the house following which fire tenders and police rushed to the spot to douse the blaze.

The mishap occurred when Golap Meher and her daughter Lakshmi were asleep in the house. The probable cause of the fire appears to be short circuit in the house.

Similarly, a 4-year-old girl Elina Santa and her 3-year-old sister Sujata Santa lost their lives in a fire incident in Mainapadar village under Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district. Getting information, police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and prevented the fire from spreading to other thatched houses, sources said.

By the time the blaze was extinguished, the minor girls were charred to death. Another girl who was present inside the house managed to escape and was unhurt in the inferno, the cause of which is yet to be ascertained.

Jharigaon police recovered the bodies and has launched an investigation to know the cause of the fire.
