Nuapada: A steady surge in the number of Covid-19 infections in the districts bordering Chhattisgarh has come as a huge concern for Odisha at a time when the State authorities are on toes to contain any possible full-fledged wave of the virus cases.

A spurt in the positive cases in Nuapada district is probably the most worrying scenario. As many as 115 positive cases have been detected in the district since last week. Making matter worse, the number of cases at Sinapali and Komana are increasing day by day.

According to the district administration sources, testing and tracking has been intensified in these regions.

"It has been found from contract tracing that most of the infected persons have Chhattisgarh link. We have kept a strong vigil on the people coming to Odisha from outside State," said Nuapada Collector Swadha Dev Singh.

"We have enforced strict Covid-19 guidelines in Sinapali and Komana blocks to check the movement of the people and avoid large congregations. There is no plan of imposing lockdown in these areas as of now. Hopefully things will improve in near future," said Singh.

Earlier on Friday, Covid-19 cases had surged further in Odisha with 234 persons testing positive for the infection.

Nuapada had reported the maximum of 33 cases followed by Khordha (32), Cuttack (29), Bargarh (24) and Kalahandi (17). While Sundargarh and Bolangir had recorded 15 cases each, Sambalpur reported 11 cases.
