Sambalpur: Amid Covid-19 resurgence, Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT ), Burla has been shut down till further order by the district administration.

According to reports, as many as 25 students of the varsity tested positive for the virus in the last few days.

The district body has also declared the hostels of the university as containment zones. Similarly, the nearby area of 'Pulah' hostel has been announced as buffer zone.

According to the varsity sources, the positive cases have been detected in three hostels of the state-run university. While 24 students had tested positive for the virus on Friday, one was found infected on Saturday. Among them, 16 are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district.

Only essential activities will be allowed in the containment zone. There will be strict perimeter control to ensure that there is no movement of people in or out of these zones. However, only medical emergencies and maintaining supply of essential goods and services will be allowed in the zones. There will be intensive contact tracing, surveillance and other clinical interventions as required.

The University had reopened on January 10 this year adhering to Covid-19 guidelines and students with Covid negative certificates were only allowed to stay in the hostels.
