Rourkela: In yet another instance of GST fraud in Odisha, a vegetable vendor of Koel Nagar area in the Steel city has been served notice for over Rs 100 crore tax fraud.

The Good and service tax (GST) department has served a notice to the accused Kartik Kamila who happens to be a vegetable vendor and also runs a tea stall.

However, the accused is clueless about any tax fraud. "Some GST officials had come to my tea stall a few days ago. They asked me about the details of my business and also my Aadhaar card and other documents. They also informed me about the tax fraud of Rs 100.09 crore in my name," Kamila said.

As per reports, the transactions have been made by a fake firm named Lingaraj Traders which is in the name of Kamila.

Similarly, a journalist living at AB Square near the Koel Nagar here was also charged with evading GST last week. In a notice, the GST authorities had mentioned that the GST evasion was carried out in the name of M/S Nayak Enterprises. However, the accused feigned ignorance about the fraudulent transaction.

In October, a driver residing in the Sector-20 area of Rourkela was also charged with gross tax liability under Section 74(5) for allegedly receiving taxable goods amounting to Rs 23.96 crore and further availing Rs 4.31 crore under CGST and SGST on the strength of fake invoice.

Though the GST officials had then asked the driver to pay Rs 4.31 crore along with the amount of applicable interest and penalty under Section 74(5), the accused denied the charges.
