Balasore: In a bizarre incident, a group of people allegedly attacked two persons causing critical injuries inside a police station in Balasore district on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at around 11 pm last night at Remuna Police station in the district when around 150 people in a group barged into the station and attacked the duo named Raghunath Sahu and Pramita Das who had visited the police station to lodge a complaint over ransacking of their houses.

The brawl took place over a past rivalry between two groups -one from Mandarpur and another from Nianbag under the same police station.

The irate mob also resorted to vandalism in the police station, reports said.

Police also admitted the attack and vandalism inside the station.

“Some people first reached the police station alleging that their houses were ransacked by their rival group. We were about to visit their village for an inquiry. At that time around 150 people suddenly arrived at the police station. We immediately closed the gate but by the time 20-30 people barged into the police station and attacked the complainants leaving them critically injured,” said Sriballahaba Sahu, Remuna Police Station Inspector-in-charge (IIC).

No complaint has been registered from either side over the incident.

Police are yet to arrest the attackers. Based on the CCTV footage, a team of police has launched a search operation to nab them.

In view of tension, two platoons of forces have been deployed at the village.

On the other hand, the injured persons were admitted to Remuna Health centre and later shifted to Balasore Medical College and Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
