Jharsuguda: A woman from Jharsuguda's Lakhanpur was left struggling for life after her food pipe was allegedly severed by a doctor performing tubectomy (family planning surgery) on her at Lakhanpur community health centre on Tuesday.

The disturbing report came to fore after Sarita Bhoi, the victim was admitted to VIMSAR in Burla after she complained of severe pain following the surgery.

Alleging gross negligence, a relative of Sarita said, "The doctor did not even inform us about the mistake. He directly sent us to Jharsuguda for further treatment. The erring doctor should be punished appropriately."

Sushant Das, a local of Lakhanpur alleged, "Sarita was referred to Jharsuguda DHH after her tubectomy in Lakhanpur and subsequently to Burla after her health condition deteriorated."

A comparatively easier surgery, tubectomy reportedly went wrong in the case of another woman in the same medical camp as well.

As per reports, the woman's condition deteriorated after the surgery in the same hospital. However, she is reportedly out of danger now.

Speaking to the media, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Jharsuguda, Lalmohan Routray said, "I cannot tell what happened in her case until I receive a detailed report. We will conduct an inquiry on the allegation and will take action appropriately."

It is pertinent to mention here that, medical negligence allegations are not new in a state like Odisha where the State is already grappling with a shortage of doctors. Recently on December 31, 2020, family members of a woman from Khandapada had alleged sheer negligence on part of the medical authorities after a needle was left inside her body during the operation.
