Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) on Tuesday asked the bus operators in the State not to collect exorbitant fares from passengers.

The STA clarified that no changes have been in the existing bus fares and said collection of excess fares violates the permit conditions.

It said the last changes in fares were made on 1 July 2020.

The STA's clarification came following allegations of excess fare collection by some bus operators.

“It is noticed that some of the stage carriage operators are collecting excess fare than the maximum fare fixed by this authority which amounts to violation of permit conditions. The Stage carriage operators are instructed to collect fare as per this office Order No. 5737 dated 01.07.2020 till further change in fare,” stated the letter.
