Bhubaneswar: Odisha Tourism and Culture Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi has been tested positive for Covid-19. Panigrahi is the fourth minister from the State to have contracted the virus.

Taking to Twitter, Panigrahi informed about the development and urged the people, who have come in contact with him, to undergo COVID-19 test and stay in isolation.

"Mid March'20 onwards doing public & official works. Not missed a day. Tried hard during this pandemic people don't feel alone & worked as desired by Hon'ble C.M. Finally Covid-19 caught hold of me. Who're in my contacts in last 7days please isolate. Last pic y'day. @CMO_Odisha," tweeted the Tourism and Culture Minister.

Prior to Panigrahi, Textile and Handicrafts Minister Padmini Dian, Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo and Rural Development Minister Susanta Singh had tested positive for coronavirus.

Apart from four ministers, over 15 MLAs have tested positive for novel coronavirus. In July, BJP MLA from Nilgiri, Sukanta Kumar Nayak, became the first legislator in the coastal State to test positive for the disease.

After him, BJD MLAs Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Bishnubrata Routray, Susant Rout, Ananta Narayan Jena, Bikram Panda, Byomakesh Ray, Debi Prasad Mishra, Pritam Padhi, Sanjib Mallick, Sunanda Das, Srikant Sahu, Sudhanshu Shekhar Parida, Prasanta Muduli , Prasant Behera, Bhagirathi Sethy and Prabhu Jani tested positive for the virus.

Ramesh Majhi , BJD MP from Nabarangpur, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP MP Suresh Pujari from Bargarh and BJD MP Manjulata Mandal from Bhadrak were also diagnosed with the disease.
