Bhubaneswar: With an aim to make his government more accountable and responsive, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a new programme ‘Mo Sarkar’.
Addressing the 73rd State-level Independence Day celebration at Exhibition Ground here, the chief minister stated that the new initiative will be implemented at all police stations and District Headquarters Hospitals in first phase from Gandhi Jayanti this year.
In the next phase, all the departments will execute the ‘Mo Sarkar’ programme by March 5, 2020, on the birth anniversary of late CM Biju Patnaik.
The chief minister said he would give telephone calls to people to know the response they have got at police station and the kind of service they received at hospitals. Also, ministers of the State will ask people about the experience at government offices.
He also announced that electricity connection will be provided to villagers within 48 hours of submission of application at concerned panchayat offices. The Chief Minister also reiterated that non-violence must be included in the preamble of the Indian Constitution.
Patnaik stated, “The focus of the State government’s programmes is common public. We are working towards ensuring that people earn their rights with the help of Five-T.”
Meanwhile, the Opposition parties have raised eyebrows the newly announced initiative by the Chief Minister. Odisha BJP General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan has questioned that if the CM does not have the ability to even speak well how can he talk with the people through phone.
"The entire health system is on the verge of collapsing but the CM says that he is ready to listen to people's complaints. Is it not paradoxical because while the CM himself had refused to implement Ayushman Bharat scheme in the State, how can he now listen to people's grievances. Naveen Babu should stop playing these mind games because people of Odisha are very simple," said Harichandan.
Congress leader Sarat Rout too raised doubts over the success of the scheme. Rout said, "CM Naveen did not have the enough knowledge and ideas about Odisha so he took help of bureacrats earlier but now if he has decided to listen and talk to the people directly, we welcome his decision."
However, Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallick said, "Chief Minister does what he says. The newly announced Mo Sarkar will also be successfully implemented and It will help people of all sections of society to voice their grievances be it inside a Tehsil office or a hospital."
