Bhubaneswar: Signalling a major upgradation in road infrastructure, the Odisha government has decided to construct four major inter-corridor roads in the state.

A decision regarding this received necessary approval today at a high-level meeting between officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Engineer-In-Chief of the Public Works Department (PWD).

With this move, the four important roads - Sambalpur Ring road, Jharsuguda-Tileibani road, Jharsuguda Bypass road and Cuttack-Paradip road - will now be upgraded and transformed into inter-corridor roads.

Sources said a detailed discussion on the alignment of the roads was held during the high level meeting today. The minutes of the meeting stated that in the next one-and-a-half months the road alignment process will be finalised and within next four to five months a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared.

"All the four roads are extremely crucial and transforming them to four lanes with inter-corridor tag would drastically reduce the traffic congestion. We have engaged a consultant to make a DPR but we need to finalise the alignment before that," said NHAI Chief General Manager, Dharmananda Sarangi.
