Odisha: Tech Grad Among 2 Held For Duping Job Seekers Through Fake Website

Sambalpur: The Cyber Police here arrested two youths including an engineering graduate on charges of running a fake website and duping job seekers by publishing fake recruitment notification in the name of WESCO.

One of the accused, Sunil Mishra, had passed electrical engineering from Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla in 2018 while the other has been identified as one named Tapas Mohapatra.

According to sources, the accused duo had created a website in the name of Western Electricity Supply Company of Odisha (WESCO) and issued recruitment notification apart from collecting application fees from the job seekers.

On July 27, WESCO DGM had lodged a complaint in this regard prompting the police to launch a probe.

The accused duo has been booked under Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 470, 471 of IPC and several Sections of IT Act. They were produced in a court today.

Further investigation is underway into the matter, the police said.
