Jajpur: Violating the sanctity of the post of teacher and putting education system to shame, a teacher of Balia primary school under Lembo panchayat in Sukinda area of the district was displaced for coming to school in inebriated condition and punishing students.

As per reports, the accused teacher Makarand Mahant came late to the school on Wednesday in an intoxicated state and forced students to kneel down outside the school premises over allegations of indiscipline behaviour.

Opposing the teacher's act, when some locals of the village shot a video of the incident, Makarand posed before the camera.

After the matter was telecast on OTV, the Block Education Officer (BEO) visited the school and relieved Mahant from his duties.

BEO Shivram Sahu said, "The teacher was drunk when he came to the school and misbehaved with the students. I have taken action against him."

Sources said, Mahant is a habitual offender but on Wednesday he was so drunk that he couldn't even park his motorbike outside the school.

"Sir was too drunk and was not in his senses. My son parked his bike properly," said a parent Mohan Murmu.

An educationist Niranjan Panda said, "The teacher is the main culprit but our system and government is also responsible for such incidents as liquor consumption is being encouraged."
